Cynthia Taylor-Luce I'm not the designer so I can't say for sure, but either would work. A Sunbrella type fabric would be very practical because it's very cleanable (even with bleach!) but it depends on how dirty you think it might get and how many years you want it to look pristine. Linen is gorgeous though... Fabric normally comes 54" wide and would be railroaded so there's no seam. If you want to go higher, take this into consideration. If you need to add seams, then you can incorporate that into the design and maybe add button tufting. The new way of button tufting is to have them very shallow, not deeply folded and buttons set down into the folds. On Houzz there are hundreds of pictures of upholstered headboards for inspiration if you search on that topic.
Built-ins are they custom or stock piece mounted - We have the same window bed layout and need to maximize storage and use as night stand. Also keep in budget. instead of custom can i find a wood stock furniture piece to make it look like that? »
Sometimes you need to get creative with storage and furniture layout in tight beach house rooms. Built-ins take the place of nightstands in this bedroom, and centering a bed beneath a window is the best use of the space.
