example of lower shading element to break up tall glassy wall. if you wanted to keep the south wall tall.....we could set a wood beam at 10' above the floor long the living space - at 9' intervals and it would cantilever out over the porch to make our trellis. Then you don't need steel columns or a flat roof. But we've accomplished breaking up the height of the wall from a scale standpoint and shading it from harsh sun. This could be cool. We could also locate your interior lights on these lower beams to light down and up for washing the ceiling. They would be easier to get to and change out at this height.

big widows are important and i love this mordern house but what i really like is the long hallway that is almost a room of itself with all windows leading to the master bedroom that than opens up onto the yard for the ultimate in fresh air.
