This is a great example of traditional foundation plantings. Just remember to plant them four feet out from the house to keep open access to the drain.

Landscaping (including walkways and other structures) makes a home feel very planned and deliberate, instead of letting it do what it does without thought to composition (which is what most of us do, I'm afraid).
