Aim High by David Shrigley

David Shrigley’s prints are oddly humorous, ironic, and thought-provoking, appearing as if drawn by a precocious child with a particularly dry-eyed view of the world. His drawings are always matched with words, short phrases, or anecdotes, like advertisements for the human psyche. In this piece, Shrigley mordantly undercuts the inspirational maxim "aim high" by showing an arrow shot into the top of an archery target—a literal take that defeats the advice's purpose, since what you'd really want to do is hit the bullseye.
