Emily Hurley Exciting! I love a good DIY project. The wood looks to me like maple with a natural stain and varnish? Can't be sure, but it looks really close to built ins I had done years ago with maple.

dtgrella Agreed. I was thinking maple too due to the lighter, yellowish tinge. Wife may agreed to deepen the color to an expresso or a "nice brown" in exact words.
Any suggestions based on your experience?
