With the kitchen being a gathering place in the home, this bench seat in the gourmet kitchen provides guests a place to sit while visiting with the host/hostess.

dimensions and materials - Love this island idea! Such a clever use of space. I was wondering what are the dimensions of the entire island? Does the bench seat start at the midpoint, and is the back of the seat soft, or is it wood? »
McSpadden Custom Homes Thank you for your interest in McSpadden Custom Homes. We strive to answer all questions in a timely and accurate manner. However, due to the age of this project and the likelihood that the materials and components have changed in the interim, we regret that we cannot provide the specific information you have requested. As for the bench, it is a hard wood back and does start at the midpoint of the island.
McSpadden Custom Homes This range hood is vented throught the cabinet and to the roof. A ductless hood works OK if you are not doing a lot greasy frying, but is not desirable if there is an option to vent to the outside.
backsplash-tile'>Backsplash Tile - I really like the subtle variations of the backsplash tile. Would you please tell us what type of tile it is and where I could get them? Is this what's called a "crackle glazed tile"? Thanks in advance for your help! »
I don't think I want to build in a seating area but this idea of seating enveloped by the shape of the bar fits the idea I am working thru on encorporating the needed support pillars and still allowing extra width in the seating area.

LIKES: Incorporated banquette seating maximizing use of space (could be used for dining or entertaining absent a table). Family friendly (no bar seating). Bench should incorporate storage for china, silver, platters, etc. Consistent flooring throughout first floor. Floor to ceiling cabinets. Lighted display cabinets at top.
DISLIKES: Island work area not deep enough. Want cooktop in island (without risk of catching someone on fire).
