Ronique Gibson First - consider the age of the home. If your home is somewhat modern (within the last 20-30 years, finishing an attic could have different pros and cons than a 100 year old home.
Pros of any aged home: Additional square footage to enjoy, live in, can add this on to your square footage when selling your home.
Cons, depending on the age - it may not be structurally sound, or may need additional heating/ventilating/a.conditiong/ - HVAC additions etc... It also may be more expensive to heat and cool the attic, if it wasn't properly insulated when the home was built.
Either way, an attic can be a great amenity. Deciding on if it is right for you and your family home is another story. :)
My dream home office: a special spot in the house like a converted attic that allows enough room for personal touches such as a loveseat, a rug, Chinese garden stool end tables, decorative accessories and bookshelves. Cozy and professional, one would not be embarrassed to bring a client by for meetings.
Here, an oversized lighting fixture catches your eye and gets you to notice the surrounding space. This large attraction is definitely the element of surprise in the otherwise unfussy room.
I like how the colour comes from the accesories and the pillows. I also like the floor lamp and the ceiling fan. Since I want to add a skylight, I am concerned with how hot the room will be.
imagine the loft shaped like this: seating area at east site, bed at west, with narrow walkway across the entire south side. Then below the east loft, an open plan kitchen, below the west loft the bathroom/office. Living space below.
