How would slate be on the kitchen floor? - My husband and I are arguing about Santos Mahogany in the kichen and how to protect and clean it in that application. »
StoneMar Natural Stone Company LLC It depends on the slate. Slate is known to chip and shale for about a year after application until it "settles," This is something that you just have to be aware of when it is applied. We recommend a penetrating stone sealer, either with color enhancement or not depending on the look that you like, and using Fabuloso all-purpose cleaner for every day cleaning. You could also consider a quartzite, which often has similar colors without the chipping.
The CleftStone Works We have excellent results with this material in kitchen applications. We suggest application of a good quality stone sealer and maintaining the stone surface with Soap to promote a patina. The end user should feel comfortable that they will have a long lasting, minimal care floor that will look super for years
eradicati Slate is one of the strongest materials possible for a countertop (stronger than granite!) so it can actually work well for kitchens. It's also basically stain-free
and really only black/gray slate might need to be sealed against absorption. The best type of slate for countertops are found in New England, as other types might be weaker, so make sure to check with your designer.
