Sundrops, ornamental grasses, lythrum, and old-fashioned flocks add color and texture to this side of the garden. Donnie and Emma installed a rain barrel last year to cut water costs and give plants the soft rainwater they crave. "I don't like to put mulch down too early," Emma says. "I want the self seeds to come up before the mulch can choke them out."
