charlottegirl All I can say is WOW! They are lovely. Call Karen over at Lantern & Scroll www.lanternandscroll.com and see if they can make it. We just bought some custom lights from them and they were so easy to work with and helpful. The best customer service. Cheers!
Martin Appliance It's a 2cm carrera white marble island. The edge is a mitered edge - probably a 3" drop from the top. They vein matched the top and drops perfectly, it appears (which is the sign of a quality fabricator).
Ceiling color - I'm building a home with white cabinets all the way to the ceiling (9") The top 12" cabinets will be glass fronts. Right now I it's WAY too much white. I'm considering painting the ceiling another color to visually bring the eyes down to the cabinetry. Also my floors will be more pecan/walnut and not as dark as these. I'm also considering changing the island color to a Williamsburg green color or similar. I thought I would do a light color counter on the island with a darker companion color for the other counters. The appliances are stainless with a stainless hood over the cooktop. I have tons of light coming into the room as this room faces the lake and I have lots of windows. »
Create ambience for a dining experience. Decorate your kitchen with entertaining in mind. "The use of unique centerpieces on your island can reinforce a feeling of a formal dining area,” says Ownby. “Use candles, florals or decor on your island that you would typically use on a table.” Lyon also suggests using any glass cabinetry you have to show off beautiful dishes or collections.
Love the extremely thick slab of marble and that the edge is nice and simple. would like to see a darker island - would make the marble and the rest of the white cabinets pop.
Entry into the kitchen (we will have to do something like this to the left of the range area as you enter to the back of the house from the front-just not in the round shape) and the shape of the edges on the island marble top
