The owners have friends over for dinner regularly, and everyone wants to watch the chef. "With the old kitchen, that meant guests were hovering right in the work area," says DiCaprio. The 375-square-foot kitchen's new floor plan allows people to circulate from the eat-in counter to the dining area and around the kitchen itself. Base cabinets: Akurum, Ikea; handles: Sugatsune; table, chairs: Cost Plus World Market; wall color: Tropical Tide, Behr

The accent wall is fantastic! And the contrast of light wood with black cabinets is very successful. Also, hardwood floor is preferable to tile, at least aesthetically here.
Dark cabinets on bottom w/ light toe kick and countertop w/ light upper cabinets: love the contrast and the way it brings out the darker highlights in the floor.
The clean look and how open and light it is. I'm not sure I like the bar and the raised backsplash to the cooking area though. The mixed materials make it obvious that the cook is blocking off his guests.
