the kitchen hood has an interesting location. this is one of the few layouts i've seen, where the range is facing a wide glass window. i actually like the idea, and am considering the same layout for my kitchen. but a novice architect friend says it is not advisable. is it better to have the range against a back solid wall instead?

Amanda Haytaian I am a kitchen designer and placed my range in front of a large window to take full advantage of the river view. I cook ALOT and actually just cooked for 50 over the holiday. I have never had any issues and love the set up. As long as you have a hood with the correct size blower, you will be fine.
the vent in front of the window -- what type is it? - I have a window behind my gas stove and the stove is not vented because of the window -- it is a nuisance because I cook a lot of Indian food and it's hard to get the spicy smells out. Can one install this vent easily? The stove is right against an outside wall with the window. »
i like this kitchen because of the view of the backyard in the great big window. This make a person feel like the room is great and vibrant i think it is a good kitchen for a family of four because of the space or even may be more.
If we do a window behind the stove I like the top of the window above the top above the hood, this one to the ceiling is awesome, but really probably too expensive...
Which i'm sure you noticed in viewing most of these photos- the venthood unit generally is a stainless unit piece rather than a built-in.....i realize that some of these may be a bit sleeker than your style preference however, there are many different venthood shapes, sizes, and offerings for consideration- so don't let the styling of some of these scare you off from the idea....
