Were any steps taken to help with fire code for the plywood? - We are looking to install a similar ceiling and running into issues with it meeting code for fire. »
Eggleston Farkas Architects Based on the building code for our particular situation, the structure was allowed to be of Type V-N construction, and therefore no fire rated assemblies were required. This is pretty typical for freestanding single family residences.
Eggleston Farkas Architects None of the finishes in this image are stained. The flooring is pre-finished bamboo. The ceiling panels are pre-finished C2 maple. The cabinets are clear lacquer on maple. The steel is blackened + penetrol. The window trim is painted black. I hope that helps.

While at first glance, it looks like this kitchen is seriously lacking in storage, Farkas was careful to create enough space for the clients to store their belongings without taking away from the simple and streamlined design. The barn door just past the kitchen is a full pantry, and the refrigerator is located around the corner. This way, Farkas was able to avoid restricting upper cabinetry, and the clients were able to avoid buying a new fridge beautiful enough to have on display. This open living space is relatively small, but the owners didn't ask for a lot of space. Both owners are from Northern Ireland, and lived in small homes with their large families most of their lives.
