Can you close off the wine recess - so you can't see it? How do you do that? I see that it is closed off in the next picture, but was wondering how that was achieved? Thanks »
Wine is a big part of the clients' lifestyle, so Farkas designed a perfectly sized nook for a row of wine bottles. The recess was made so that the back set of cabinetry would be placed into the recess, leaving a nook at just the right size for a standard bottle of wine. One of the homeowners created the abstract art in the same rich colors as a bottle of red wine. Absolute Black granite countertops contrast richly with the smooth maple cabinetry. A flat electronic stovetop lends to the kitchen's seamless design. Eco-friendly bamboo flooring, which blends perfectly with the light maple cabinetry, was installed throughout the space.

In many cases, the same types of displays created with unopened bottles of wine work just as well with empties. Instead of tossing the bottle that you pull and finish from this line-up, stick it right back where it came from. The glass itself will carry its own allure, and hopefully each empty bottle a story to remember.
Nope, you can't close it off. The point was to keep the bottles as a design feature. The recess is simply a drywall alcove.
It's a little confusing, because the second picture in the kitchen of the week ideabook (
Anyway I think it looks pretty open - its like artwork!!
