Annie Thornton Although stainless steel sinks are pretty bulletproof, there are still substances and practices that can damage them.
-Products that contain chlorine bleach, and other harsh chemicals often found in building materials and acidic cleaners can damage stainless steel.
-Avoid using abrasive cleaners to clean the sink. The chemicals will roughen the surface, and weaken the sink. It is the smooth finish that protects the sink from rusting.
-Any time you have any chemicals in the sink, including even dish washing detergent, make sure to wipe down everything with a normal sponge and water. Also make sure that you try to dry the sink. Tap water can also have staining chemicals in it.
-If you would like, kitchen supply stores carry stainless steel protectors, but I don't think they are necessary if you just make sure to rinse it off and dry.
