It is IPE - Brazilian Hardwood. It's about 1.5" thick and is coated with an IPE oil that keeps the warmth and look of the wood intact. A lot of people use this wood for decking, it's just more expensive, but extremely durable. You can see we also used it at the front door entry which is in another photo on the posting.
