Michelle Miner yes they did. You can't see it very well in this picture but there is a vaulted ceiling coming down on the arch over the island. so those are structural posts

Annie Thornton Houzz kitchen and bath expert Rebekah Zaveloff answered this question on another photo of the kitchen. She believes that these are quartzite countertops. Take a look at the question and see if you can find some helpful information.
