Located in a midtown Toronto neighbourhood, this traditional residence consisted of typical formal rooms and a very small kitchen. The homeowners were keen on an open concept layout for the main floor that would be more conducive to their casual lifestyle. The challenge was to incorporate some traditional features, while contemporizing the space. An extension was added on to the back of the home, providing more living space and a larger kitchen area. The windows and French doors that span the width of the house maximize the natural light and view of the garden. Large mirror panels were installed in the dining area to create the illusion of a much larger space and reflect light back into the gourmet kitchen. The minimalist stone fireplace surround and modern low profile furniture in the living room offset various traditional details. Classic materials were selected for the master ensuite, to complement the master bedroom’s furnishings.
