shalago mbts- our island is 2 1/2 " thick. It's a pencil edge. Our cabinets are just white- industrial grade white. We were suppose to do Simply White by Benjamin Moore but when my cabinet builder started painting them, we noticed color variations and we had a lot of issues (we actually wrote on this forum last year for help and opinions from others who have experience with painted white cabinets) It was a nightmare. We finally realized not to go with a "fancy: name color and just do WHITE. Couldn't be happier. Does not give off any weird yellow/ gray/ blue tones.
This was the hardest part of our kitchen project! I plan on posting pictures on houzz soon.

mbts Shalago - thanks so much. that is very helpful. We are having custom cabinets and are going to go with white dove...hopefully it works out well. I just noticed that your ideabook photos and mine are nearly identical! I'm in Massachusetts. Great taste!
