Making books an integral part of design, especially in common areas like this living room, keeps literature on the forefront of children's minds. It shows priority (and, as is shown here, awe-inspiring aesthetic).
TEXTURE. Because it is so clean and pristine, white encourages expansion in your choice of furnishings. Whether you continue the white theme into your textiles, or want bolder accents, white leaves room for embellishment. Decoratively with white: anything, anything goes.
This is my favorite example of a room that is equally eclectic and sophisticatedly coordinated. Each piece is sleek, uncomplicated, and keeps to chic rich neutrals.
A piano might also be a sign of broader culture interests. This room reflects that. The art on the walls, the many books, the space for conversation, the souvenirs from travels and the table for doing various projects all come together in one room to allow for maximum creativity.
Soft whites throughout this room help keep things from feeling too cluttered. A soft yellow enters into the white, creating a light buttery scheme to pair with the dark and varied furniture throughout.
One end of this large living space is covered in shelves that are books interspersed with sculptures; the former are open to the lightly shaded wall, while the former has a dark backing that helps the objects stand out.
