Ronique Gibson Similar to a house, determine if the bare bones and structure of the piece of furniture are still solid and in good shape. If so and you still like the 'lines and form' of the furniture - reupholstering is a good idea.

If the furniture is damaged beyond repair, or it costs more to repair than buy new, then you should probably opt for a new piece of furniture.

Now if this is a vintage piece and has sentimental value, etc.. you can determine what you want to do. :)

drich1 Another solution, if the sofa is in good shape, is to slipcover. If done well it's difficult to differentiate from upholstery. There is also the advantage of removing them and having them dry cleaned.
