Rebekah Zaveloff That actually looks like a glass tile backsplash - you can see grout lines if you look closely...but, you can do full height glass. When I've done it, it's not clear glass with painted wall (or you'd see the glue). The back of the glass is painted.
For some reason, if a wall mount is the only option, it looks better when it's flush up against the wall rather than at an angle on a mounting arm...I think it has something to do with it referring to the way art is hung rather than a bar or hospital setting thing again.
If they are going to tear out the ceiling in the kitchen and then presumably put in a new ceiling, they could make it just a couple of inches lower that the dining room so you can add high hats-- in addition to the pendant lights over the island. I presume they will have a short wall -- beam ==between the kitchen and dining room to support the house?.
