Looks like the home of a collector! What caught my eye is the group of three model sailboats — the minimum number of objects to make a collection — on this console table. The table raises them up just high enough to be visible anywhere in the living room.
Tip: Use an odd number of objects and vary the heights for a pleasing display.
This shiplap treatment is undeniably nautical (the sailboats in the foreground add to the feeling). The overlapped application gives the walls a great dose of dimension and architectural interest. And as you can see, it still allows for hanging artwork.
Take your collection to the coast. A seaside home is one of my favorite places to use blue-and-white porcelain, as it ties in beautifully with a nautical color palette. To keep it from looking too formal, I would use the porcelain pieces on a mantle and fill them with wild sea oats, starfish or seashells for a nice contrast. Oscar de la Renta's Dominican Republic home is filled with blue-and-white china. If it's good enough for Oscar, it's good enough for me!
Blue and white is a classic beach color combination. I love the use of traditional white siding as an interior application. Texture plus blue and white details equals instant beach vibe.
