LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Hi Sara,
The granite is Valley White. It has shades of sage green, taupe and white, so it can be considered a neutral in this room. Keep in mind, each granite distributor names their granite different.
Here is a link I found that gives you a better idea of this granite:

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Good morning,
This is a solid walnut piece that is fixed to the island. We wanted to change surface material and level for interest as we accomplished additional functionality. It was custom made by the cabinet maker. It does not extend or pull out.
Thank you for your interest in this project.

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Isn't it gorgeous? It is my very favorite-solid walnut. The piece was, of course, custom made for this island.
Thank you for your interest~

Is it necessary to put a chair rail around the medallion over the cook top? - Is it necessary to frame the stovetop medallion with a chair rail? I'm remodeling my kitchen and have 3x6 subway tile in staggered placement for the backsplash, then for the medallion, a mosaic tile four rows deep bordering harlequin tiles within the mosaic. Therefore, the medallion will be flush with the backsplash. My designer is pushing toward a chair rail to add depth, but the chair rails only come in white or cream, whereas my backsplash tile is desert gray by rittonhouse . I found a slate chair rail that picks up colors of a mosaic that will go around the subway tile. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. »
Trilogy Kitchens It does not need to be a chair rail. There are several different peices that you could use. I small pencil peice can be used they are usually 12" long and you can get them in 5/8" wide to a chair rail size. Or you can use 3x6 as the boarder. Dal-Tile has several complimentary color to the desert gray if you wanted to use a different color.
Rebekah Zaveloff Very pretty kitchen, can't help you in the close up department...but I think it looks like White Palmas or Ivory Chiffon Granite or possibly a quartzite material.
Rebekah Zaveloff That's such a great looking backsplash. I think Pratt and Larson has something similar to that. It's almost a green-brown. Love the herringbone mixed in. I think it's a 2x6 size.
teresa112 I am confused about the back splash idea. Like in the picture, I have a 5" granite back splash that goes up on the wall. So I thought my only option was to paint from the top of this 5"granite back splash to underneath the cabinets. In the picture it looks like that a tile goes really well with the granite. Please help me out as I have been misled about what to do with this area between the granite and underneath the cabinet.
French-inspired vanilla and caramel-glazed cabinets take on a traditional appearance in the context of this Lowcountry kitchen. The butcher-block counter extension adds a rustic element, while the dual vintage pendants keep it refined.
