Spiering & Co Longworth
Contemporary Landscape, London
A central lawn edged with wide borders leads off the Italian limestone terrace. This is a beautiful Georgian mansion with a contemporary glass kitchen extension so the garden design needed to be both classic and contemporary. The borders are planted in such a way that as one group of flowers fade, another takes it place. In spring hundreds of tulips give a wonderful display. Each border is backed by a row of pleached Carpinus betulus which gives both privacy and height. The symmetry of the garden design echoes the symmetry of the house and the design of the garden ensures it looks good viewed from any window of the house.
