If you replace the cabinets you might want to reconsider the height and depth of the cabinet to the right. As long as you have one side towering over the other, your room will never look bigger. You need to re-think your storage requirements and build cabinetry that is united in height and visual weight.
Custom Home Planning Center I agree with the last responder remove the tall cabinet and add a wall to wall counter. Change the lighting to a wall to wall linear form and expand the mirror. To avoid that 70's look think about shielded Led lights down both edges. If you just don't like the cabinets the best increased space look would be to do 20" tall drawer sets (2 drawers) set at 36" off the floor.
