Open Shelves in the Kitchen
If you like open shelving in a kitchen, consider taking off a couple cabinet doors. Just fill in holes with wood filler, and paint over. The open shelving makes for a modern feel.

We bought this island from a vendor at the Canton, Texas First Monday Trade Days Flea Market in 2008. It is made from reclaimed barn wood.
