Cove House

From the rear of the house, one can see straight through the glass walls of the main living space to the water beyond. The two wings of the house form an outdoor shaded area, with a wood burning outdoor fireplace.

What materials did you choose to use for the siding? - It looks great without your typical New England materials. What did you do for a finish to keep the natural wood look? »

Stanev Potts Architects This is Atlantic White Cedar, in a select (vertical grain) grade. We created a custom shiplap detail with an exposed reveal, and the finish was a semi transparent Cabot sealant, in 'natural'. The cedar came from Liberty Cedar in RI:

I have to say, though, that cedar does of course tend to silver out over time. To keep this looking 'new' the owner will have to apply a bleaching product and then re-apply the 'natural' tone cabot stain.
