Jim�s Steaks is an iconic restaurant specializing in cheesesteaks, founded in 1939 by Jim with his first head cook Henry "Papa Geech" Caratura. Jim's Steaks main restaurant is located at 400 South Street in Philadelphia.
Jim's was founded in 1939 at its original location of 431 North 62nd Street in West Philadelphia, where it still operates. Jim and his family operated the restaurant and used Cross Brothers slaughterhouse in North Philadelphia as a source of meat.
In 1976, Jim's Steaks expanded to its current main location at 400 South Street in Center City Philadelphia. This location has become a Philadelphia tourist attraction. Jim's expanded to Roosevelt Mall in Northeast Philadelphia in 1996.
Jim's newest location opened in 1999 at 469 Baltimore Pike in Springfield PA (Delaware County) in the Stoney Brook Center.
Jim's serves Philly cheesesteaks and comes with an option of meat, Cheez Whiz, provolone, American cheese, fried onions, mushrooms, etc.
Jim's Steaks has long wait lines and is a favorite pick among both locals and tourists. Jim's has been described as a more nuanced Cheesesteak which is frequented by celebrities. Headshots, photos, and autographs of celebrities that have dined at the restaurant can be seen on the wall. Kevin Hart and Ice Cube have personally served patrons at Jim's.
William Proetto passed away in 2011. Jim's Steaks is currently owned by his son Marc Proetto.
