Who says a traditional kitchen has to be ALL traditional? This young couple wanted to pay homage to the style of home, but also infuse their own aesthetic into the home. With dark gray cabinetry, cream subway tile backsplash, the circle pattern accent tile appears as little "clouds" throughout the kitchen.
I love the size of the mosaic above the range! What is the overall dimensions, including the chair rail? - I am having a bit of difficulty defining the overall size of the "medallion" that will go under my hood/above my 36" rangetop. Some seem too big, some too small, some too square...this is perfect! Can you tell me the overall dimensions, including the chairrail? Thanks so much!!! »
jhannibalshaner Thanks so much! This is very helpful! Just realized my hood is actually wider than my 36" range but has 2 corbels that come down on either side making the space within my corbels 36". I'm assuming a 21x29" medallion will still be the best size!?!? Thanks, again!
Chair rail - Is it necessary to frame the stovetop medallion with a chair rail? I'm remodeling my kitchen and have 3x6 subway tile in staggered placement for the backsplash, then for the medallion, a mosaic tile four rows deep bordering harlequin tiles within the mosaic. Therefore, the medallion will be flush with the backsplash. My designer is pushing toward a chair rail to add depth, but the chair rails only come in white or cream, whereas my backsplash tile is desert gray by rittonhouse . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. »
Jason Ball Interiors, LLC Lisa, first off, thanks for the question. I would say that you need some type of break between the field tile and the accent. It doesn't necessarily have to be a chair rail molding. Maybe a double pencil liner or metal accent tile or something else. Look outside the field tile color choices for some different option. Can you use some strips of your counter top material? I think you see where I'm going with this. Let me know what you come up with. I bet it will be perfect.
Jason Ball Interiors, LLC @Raimi Wall - since I don't know how your monitor is representing the colors of the circle tiles, my best recommendation is to find a local Mercury Mosaics dealer/showroom or contact them directly for samples that match your decorative scheme.
4. Expect to splurge. In the budget, allow for the few places where you'll want to splurge. For example, the kitchen backsplash is a place you may want to do something truly special and remarkable. If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, the backsplash is something you'll see several times a day for many years. Even if it costs a significant amount, allow yourself to splurge a little on something you'll enjoy.
