Color bounding from this Texas sky to the high desert mountains to rich grassland inspired this oil sketch of arid ranchland that is far from drab. The rough texture of the stretched linen canvas I used kept me concentrating on color and shape patterns.

A native Texan, I have cactus, big skies, the vast horizons of the desert southwest in my blood. (No wonder I became a landscape painter.) I seek majesty in the mundane. Using soft pastels or oils, I let the language of color translate the raw beauty of Far West Texas, of Big Bend to canvas.
