Sometimes no railing makes the best statement. In this case, open stairs are protected by thin metal poles. I love the clean, sophisticated look (even if I wouldn't let a baby crawl up those steps).

A staircase this modern is best served by modern decor in the surrounding areas. The solid modern table here and the striking modern artwork on the walls maintain the clean lines of the staircase and pull the entire look together. Doesn't it make you curious about what's upstairs?!
