Case Remodeling This homeowner contracted with a painter after our part of the project was complete and they have since moved away so unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. I'm almost positive it was Sherwin-Williams so perhaps you could show SW a picture and ask for their suggestions.
Could you please tell me the distance between island and sink as well as the distance between island and frig. - We are remodeling and i am very concerned about achieving the proper distance. We are a family of 7 and so there's lots of traffic! »
Case Remodeling National Kitchen and Bath Association Guidelines recommend a minimum of 42" for a work aisle when there is one cook in the kitchen and up to 48" for multiple cooks (that's the edge of one counter to the edge of the other - appliance doors don't count as part of that measurement). If the work aisle also acts as a main walkway through the space lean toward 48". Anything greater than 48" can feel uncomfortable because you're having to take multiple steps from the sink to the island. 36" is the absolute minimum if you're in a tight space, but it can be uncomfortable and special attention needs to be paid to appliance doors opening. In this configuration you would need to look at the specs of the fridge to determine whether or not a person could comfortably open the door without the island getting in the way. You'd also want to make sure that if someone was standing at the cook top you could still open the dishwasher (if you plan on having two cooks in the kitchen). Your kitchen designer should be well versed in these NKBA Guidelines. They can be found on the NKBA website if you want to check them out. Good luck on your project!
Island Dimensions - I'm just trying to gauge the size of the island. Assuming the cabs are 36" and the cooktop is 24" (?) the island is 5' x 6'? Any thoughts? »
what type of molding was used at the top of the cabinets between the cabinets and the soffit (not the crown on top, but the lower molding), and what size? »
What are the heights of the ceiling and moldings (baseboard and crown)? - We are looking for a temporary way to modernize our kitchen and I like the idea of disguising our bulkheads with moldings, but our ceiling height is only 8 feet. Thanks. »
