I marvel at how the universal shapes of alpha helix and beta pleated sheet structures of proteins determine the unlimited possibilities that are part of every living thing on earth.. This opens up new connections between the exploration of art and science for me_. I enjoy taking these forms and looping them with my with artistic language. This artwork comes framed in a natural wooden floater frame_.ready to go

About the artist:

Sandi Neiman Lovitz graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelors degree in Art Education in 1964 and taught art in the Pittsburgh public school system for two years. She attended summer art classes at Carnegie Tech and was a juried member in the Pittsburgh watercolor society before moving to Philadelphia.
She was of President of the Tri-State Pennsylvania Artists Equity for two years and has continued to serve on the executive board. She is also involved in ARTsisters, a group of women who are professional visual artists that not only support each other, but also reach out to women and children in the community. Sandi was recently juried in to the Centennial exhibition at the Delaware Art Museum by John B. Ravenal, curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. She was also juried in to the Berks Art Alliance at the Reading Art Museum and was awarded an honorable mention by Lisa Tremper Hanover, curator of the Michener Museum. She participated in the Square Foot Art Basel Miami and was awarded the Nolan Painting Award at the Main Line Art Center in Haverford, Pa. by Moe Brooker and was awarded feature artist on Artsy Shark, founded by Carolyn Edlund, Executive Director of the Arts Business Institute.
  • Sandi is on the faculty member at the MAIN LINE ART CENTER in Haverford, Pennsylvania and paints full time in her studio .
My paintings are about color, particularly the way colors interact with one another and change our perception of them. My current body of abstract paintings is a dance between painting, and the molecular images drawn from the world of biochemistry, showcasing the basic geometric forms that are the underpinnings of life. This opens up new connections between the exploration of art and science. The dance arises by taking these forms and looping them with my with artistic language.
I work with acrylic paints and include spray paint, colored pencil, charcoal, flashe paint and sometimes pastels to create a rich environment that consists of many layers. The choices and decisions we make throughout our lives makes us who we are. My paintings do the same----painted in layers, each layer influences the next. I'm willing to take chances with my work, just as I'm willing to take chances in my life, because I've learned that little that is unique or precious is gained without risk.
