do you know anything about these chairs? - My friend is lusting after these chairs. We can not seem to find any info on them as to period, style, etc.
If we knew what they were we could search for some.

How do you come about finding furniture pieces, artwork, etc. then put them together? I'm using this photo to decorate my apartment and need some clear objectives. Thank you for being creative and sharing with the class!

This room is so wonderful because it's light, bright, and playful...and they weren't afraid to mix things up. None of the bigger pieces really "match" per se, but if you look closely, there are subtle accents which refer back to those pieces - and that creates balance.
The black and white of the cowhide is picked up in the picture frames...so is the brown of the armchair. The pink spindle backed chairs are counterbalanced by the throw on the couch, and the green (love green & pink) of the plants in the room. Notice also that the pink chairs are see-through, which balances out the heavier proportions of the sectional and armchair.
So, our suggestion is to create a light neutral palate, and then add some pops of color with things that you love. As you go, try to add some smaller accent pieces to bring those colors onto other parts of the room. All in all, you will end up with a design that is eclectic, but balanced - just like the room above.
Below are some other examples of rooms we love, for the same reasons...
There is a lot of great art, and furniture as well, most of which is found in Houzz's Product section. Everything is sorted by colors and woodgrains, so choose your favorite and see what's inside!
Marie Hebson's interiorsBYDESIGN Inc. Hello monessabacon, sharing with the class? What class...
Regarding your question, setting objectives is good, but artwork and accessories can't be done until all the large pieces are in place. Start with your area rug, paint, and space plan. Then set the tone based on the pieces you've gravitated to (e.g.: sofa, chairs, table, lighting etc.) This photo shows a very eclectic style with country mixed in with modern and collage of artwork. The tying bind is the art work with the table and chairs, they bring continuity and harmony to the space by staying with painted finishes, carved wood feed, soft country vibes. Same with the painted hardwood floor. The sofa, area rug and pendant fixture are modern, which create tension. Always interesting to create tension between genres in interior design. Good luck with you project and your class!
Jeanette Lunde Thank you :) I´ve made it myself. The shade was green and I painted it white. Afterwards I paintet it inside with goldpaint, added bronzepowder and goldleaf.
The shade is from Ikea. God luck with your hunt :)
White floor boards - Did you install flooring to paint or paint the original floor? I'm looking to do this but don't have nice original flooring to paint »
Use a cluster of colorful artwork to pick up on the color scheme of a room. Here, pinks, browns and aquas lift the otherwise all-white decor. Hang large-scale pieces in the middle of the arrangement with smaller frames tightly surrounding them for one big focal point.See the rest of this room
Think classic isn't your style? Bear in mind that classic pieces can always be revamped in the future if you really get bored with them (you could paint your Windsor-style chairs bubble gum pink!), but it is much harder to tone down a piece with an unusual shape.
Here, two Windsor chairs feel current in a light pink paired with a trendy cowhide rug. A retro brown armchair and off-white sofa balance the look with more masculine touches.
Chair on right looks comfy, but like it might not take up too much space. Having trouble finding chairs that seem like they'd be comfy but not too big.
I'm really leaning toward painted wood floors. Lumber Liquidators has a utility grade oak for $1 per sq ft. Very short lengths (8-10 inches) but could be fine painted a soft driftwood gray, perhaps with a few faux wood colorations.
