This shot is from an upcoming Houzz Tour, in which New York City meets Savannah. Exposed brick, meet white paint. And a large panel of wallpaper. High ceilings meet a crystal chandelier, a mid-century modern Wassily chair meets a cushy yet tailored upholstered sofa, and a sleek lucite coffee table meets eclectic throw pillows.
How did they make these two East Coast cities mingle? "Both cities are rooted in history and feature some of the most amazing architecture," Joel says. "NYC for me is the groundwork for most of my designs. NYC inspires urban living mixed with modern amenities; edgy and unexpected. In a lot of ways Savannah has mellowed my design aesthetic and has allowed me to think more traditionally. It has been a pretty good marriage of ideas. It just proves you can mix urban/modern with traditional forms."
Case in Point: Exposed brick painted white holds a large panel of Cole and Sons "Woods" wallpaper, a Wassily chair and a tailored upholstered sofa have a conversation, and bold tribal-style pillows and a lucite coffee table form a happy union.
Yes, I like everything about this room, the high ceiling, the dark tile on the floor, or it could be concrete, the mid-century style leather chair paired with the light colored (cafe au lait) color of sofa, the lucite coffee table. The result: homey. Love it.
This is more me. But still needs to declutter. I like that it's all white and there's a plastic clear table. I still like the all white space with angular furniture and a colored bookshelf as contrast
