schepke beautiful bathroom...can you tell me what material you used on the counter top? it looks like marble. i'm so hesitant to use because it's so porous ... what has been your experience?

subeeskitchen The countertop is Calcutta Gold marble (honed). (The floor tiles are a much less expensive marble called "Avenza".) I love it, but it's not what I'd call worry-free. Harsh cleaners or anything acidic will etch the surface (less visible on honed surfaces than on a polished surface). I don't have any problems with staining, though you wouldn't want to leave makeup or coffee rings, etc. on the surface overnight. Staining doesn't happen instantly. Even nail polish comes off with acetone.
