John Malick & Associates In the alcove, the cabinetry and brickwork to the right of the range is symmetrical with the cabinetry and brickwork to the left. On the wall opposite, the alcove is balanced out by a French door that opens to a covered porch. More photos and other information on the project can be found on our website, www.jmalick.com, as well as in a recently published book about our work, A Lyric Architecture.
John Malick & Associates The counter is marble, which better handles daily use, and for unity matches the surrounding cabinets' counters. Details about the marble can be found in our responses to other questions.
John Malick & Associates The base paint is a custom color the glazes give further depth. The warm tone also comes from the room's other finishes, as well as the thick walls, which soften the incoming light.
John Malick & Associates Marble with an antiqued finish has a gently irregular surface texture. A honed finish is smoother and more uniform. Both are much less reflective than a polished finish.
Do you have additional pictures of this gem? - Have you taken any additional pictures from different angles that you can share? You've applied just the right amount of "touches" to indicate it's mediterranean roots, without making it too cliche'. Perfection! »
John Malick & Associates If you are referring to the "Alpine Ski Chalet," the house is located at the base of the slopes of a Northern California ski resort. More information about the house is available on our website, www.jmalick.com, as well as in a recently published monograph on our work, A Lyric Architecture. Both further provide photos of other projects in French styles.
John Malick & Associates The range hood uses a specially fabricated remote fan set into the soffit. The front of the hood is finished with the same plaster as the rest of the kitchen, and the hand-carved antique shelf came from an Afghan palace.
The range in the alcove is 4'-7"long, with more than 2'-2" of counter space to either side. Since every application is different, whether these dimensions would suffice for the Aga you mention is a question best addressed by your architect and installer.
John Malick & Associates The rock was quarried and cut in Mexico to the design of John Malick & Associates, with additional finishing after installation. The backsplash behind the stove is indeed brick.
John Malick & Associates The glass panels you see in the photo are a custom laylight. The skylight above them, which you do not see, was manufactured to our design by O'Keefe's Inc. in San Francisco.

7. Arches. In this generously sized kitchen, an arch separates the cooking and dining areas and adds to the Mediterranean look. There's another arch in the niche by the range.
The kitchen is where the heart is and your heart will definitely be in it when you prepare meals in this kitchen. The mediterranean style Spanish oak will give you just to right ambiance to prepare your mediterranean style meals.
