This house in Saskatchewan, Canada belongs to a couple with two small children. Much of the house is based on black, white and chrome, but designers Elmy and Ciona wanted to make sure that there also were softer, pleasant tones mixed in the spaces. The bottom floor of the home is a single great room, consisting of kitchen, dining room and
living room. The fireplace was built to separate the dining room and help make it more intimate. For the fireplace, the client wanted a material that wouldn't make the TV stand out. Elmy and Ciona found a gray and black polished marble with a bit of sparkle. The gray helps balance out the black-and-white and works perfectly with the TV. Pops of yellow textiles add fun. "This room is sophisticated and contemporary, but still very child-friendly," Elmy says. "The area rug provides a great play space, and the client can watch her children in the living room while she's cooking."
