wozzagee Hi, yes but these are wooden units-cabinets which could burn, I'm sure in the uk this is against regulations

Julie Grant Maybe they put a layer of something over the wood? Type X drywall or something along those lines. Or maybe they just did renovations afterwards without a permit.

Interesting idea to frame the stove with two long narrow cabinets. They don't necessarily have to be glass showpiece cabinets like this, but you could potentially take the current spice cabinet all the way down to the counter and then mirror it on the other side. Not sure how annoying this would be for counter space when cooking but it shows off the hood nicely.
