jamietalan I am looking for a door and trim color that is tasteful.. bedrooms upstairs different colors but of course want door and baseboards to be same throughout. Thanks.
claireeley I would love to know what the paint colour is too... Defiantly not shaker beige though, I just got a tester sample and its nothing like it. My guess is a stone colour?
Love the black door. But where do I stop? - If wanting to paint the interior doors black do you have to paint all doors black? If not do you have to paint all the doors black on the same floor? What would be the guidelines for the other doors in the house? Thank you. »
Supa Doors I'm not sure if this is one of our Supa Doors, but definitely a 2 Panel design with a raised panel look. If painting black, a smooth surface like solid MDF is very conducive to getting a clean consistent look. Best of luck!!
The Shabby Nest Hopefully, you'll hear back from the designer. But, in the mean time, yes, trim and doors are traditionally painted with semi-gloss paint.
Mona Ives Why not? Depends on the color balance - such as the shade of the walls and floors (don't go too dark if the stained trim is dark) and also the stained trim with black doors may be more traditional than with a clean white trim. Even more important is the style of trim that will impact the look more than the color I think - is it colonial casing, windsor you have in your home? Take a piece of cardboard or posterboard, paint it black and hold it up next to your trim so you can get the idea of how it will look.
Richard Mersiovsky, A.I.A. It appears that the door trim is a very simple 1 x 4 with square edge. The baseboard appears to be 1 x 8 with a chamfered edge or possibly a small molding, like a PM-6.
I love the black doors combined with the white trim also. If I copy this look in my home should I leave the window frames white or do they also need the combined treatment? »
Anne DeCocco Your window frames will look fine if you keep them white. But use the Houzz search box to find some photos of window mullions done in a dark color--in the right space they look fantastic!
Charmean Neithart Interiors, LLC. You really can do both. I personally would leave window trim white, but there is no rule. I also love this look, I think it looks very sophisticated and not so predictable. I would leave all trim white, including windows, crown, and base. Make the dramatic splash with the dark doors. You can also really make the dark color pop on the doors with polished door hardware, brass or nickel. Good luck and have fun.
Kelly Porter Hopefully you'll hear from the designer on the exact color. In the meantime, here is a similar one for you to consider: Relaxed Khaki 6149 by Sherwin Williams.

What color outlet/switch cover? - The switch cover by the door looks white. Do you want the outlet/switch to "pop" in this look? Or would I try to lessen their effect by going with a lighter tan... or even possibly the same color as the wall? »
White transom? Black door. - Love this black door white trim idea. But my door frame includes a top transom divided into three panels. Will it look odd to leave the panels white? »
Any issue with the black painted door? - Does the paint from the black door rub
on the trim at all? I am concerned any
white it touches it will ruin the white part
of the trim. Thanks! »
Jolene, I adore the painting in this picture. We are moving into a new home and would love to see more of your work? Loved all the pictures in this loft. Thanks for sharing. »
Here's another example of a larger entry space. This urban decor uses large abstract artwork in place of a mirror and two striking ceiling pendants add to the mix. I like the edgy black and beige colors that you don't see together often.
Administer a double dose of design. Long, tall, and windowless entryways are dark and unwelcoming without a proper light source. Find a fixture you love and double the dose to keep things bright and inviting and less like a pathway to doom.
Table lamp. If you prefer to come home to a lit space rather than a dark one, a nearby table lamp may be something to try out. Typically, light bulbs used for lamps are a lower wattage than those used for ceiling lights, resulting in less energy used while you're away and the ambiance is a nice touch as well.
Here's a surprise: Did you know that painting your interior doors black instantly makes your space look more expensive? This simple change can make even inexpensive doors look like something truly special.
