WORKSHOP — May 12, 2012 Urban Menagerie: How to Raise Food Animals in the CityOakland, CaliforniaIf you've ever had the urge to raise your own meat or build your own backyard barnyard, join SPUR, Kitchen Table Talks and 18 Reasons for a special workshop and bicycle tour. Led by Esperanza Pallana of Pluck and Feather and Kitty Sharkey of Havenscourt Homestead, the day's events include a bicycle tour visiting two homes where goats, rabbits, chickens and other animals are raised in the backyard. You will learn about the practicality and legality of raising animals in cities, as well as get tips on feeding, sheltering and slaughtering. Light snacks will be provided; bring your own lunch.
