Sindahl Hi,
The nails are hammered in and for the pattern I used a template made from paper. I calculated how many nails that would fit along one line and draw a dot where I wanted the nail to be. I needed substantial prep work but it's all worth it :)
EW: When did your obsession with upholstery nails begin?
TS: It began when I saw a nailhead cabinet online. It was a designer piece with a price tag to match. I really wanted this cabinet, but overpriced furniture really annoys me so I decided to make my own. It is almost identical to the one I saw and it cost almost nothing. I took an IKEA cabinet and hammered away. It actually is one of my favorite pieces today.
With an IKEA cabinet, some upholstery nails and a hammer, she was able to make a piece that's almost identical to the one she fell in love with, but at a fraction of the cost. Doesn't it look incredible?

Instead of replacing the tiles, we painted them. We also added glitzy details like the Swarovski crystals on the towel bars and upholstery nails on a base cabinet from Ikea.
Love the look of high end pieces on a modest budget and since I love IKEA, it is a win win - would love to incorporate this into my home. It has a high-end feel - love high-end luxury without the cost.
