It's difficult to tell from this photo, however this looks like a large tile either in porcelain or stone, maybe a honed granite or marble combination since it is matte and not glossy laid in this checkerboard pattern. In the past when laminate was newer in the market about a decade ago, Pergo floors made a laminate like this that had the apperance of painted wood floors in this very pattern. I have been searching for it again as I would like to do my hall and kitchen in this pattern in my century home. No luck as of yet, so stone or tile may be the way to go.

Draperygal--YES, I remember that Pergo flooring and I, too, have been searching for it. When I go into the flooring stores (which are just dismal places), I beg them to ask Pergo to bring them back! That's why I'm here with my search for black and white flooring because of that darn Pergo--LOL! Have you found any good alternatives?

You could always paint the wood yourself. I did this same pattern in my kitchen. Not hard just time consuming.

tohsalem - yes I have considered painting my wood floors in this pattern, it the time that has me putting it off. How has the finish held up for you? It would be in a high traffic zone in my house so not sure about the maintenance.
