What Houzz contributors are saying:

Daisy Bush(Brachyglottis greyi)For a beautiful gray hedge that is pretty hardy, it is hard to beat Brachyglottis greyi. The plant is sometimes sold as Senecio greyi or Senecio 'Sunshine'.One thing that you will most likely miss with judicious pruning is the bright yellow daisy-like flowers that cover the plant in summer. This hedge will need to be pruned at least twice a year to keep it in shape. USDA zones: 8 to 10Water requirement: Low Light requirement: Full sun or partial shadeMature size: 3 to 5 feet tallPlanting tips: Grow it in well-drained soil, preferably in full sun.

Low hedge Senechio 'Sunshine' (Zone 8 - 10). Other choices: -Japonese yew "emerald spreader" (works in shade) -Small junipers, such as blueberry delight, dwarf Japanese garden -microbiota (Russian cypress); works in shade -dwarf Norway spruce (pimoko, pusch) -Arborvitae (thuja) mr. bowling ball Other than boxwood, I don't personally know of evergreen deciduous northern hardy shrubs that would fit this particular application. But there are a few additional ones that would fill in summer & maybe give a good winter show: -cotoneaster tom thumb -dogwood arctic fire, garden glow -a couple of winterberry varieties -euonymous emerald n' gold, little moses burning bush, moonshadow
