What brand of composite decking did you use? Any problems with mold? How have you had it? »
Bonin Architects & Associates Hello, thank you for your question. This is a product called CorrectDeck. The only feedback we've heard from people who have used this product is that it does freeze in cold weather, and it tends to show signs of weathering from sunlight. It is washable, durable and low maintenance.
Custom Home Planning Center I've used plastic lumber for about 15 or 16 years and found given moist conditions you can get mold and mildew build up in shaded areas. A spray of 50/50 water and Chlorine bleach in a garden sprayer once a month in these area resolves the problem. Most plastic lumber color do not hold color. (sun bleaching)The last few years I've used the 5/4" deck boards for exterior trim. It takes stain well and has far fewer maintenance headaches than wood. It reduced problems with wood peckers and boring bees, but the Racoons will gnaw through it. In this circumstance, I add aluminum drip edge and that seem to discourage them.
