JMA mediterranean-exterior

Home built by JMA (Jim Murphy and Associates); designed by Taylor Lombardo Architects. Photo credit: Chris Larrance.

A true Italian villa built in the foothills of Kenwood. This home was built using insulating foam blocks filled with concrete on all the exterior walls. We then plastered the interior and used a combination of stones to create a home that looks as if it is hundreds of years old. The effect is magnified by adding cast stone columns, stained concrete floors and distressed woodwork. The project includes the main home, separate garage with workout room, and two cabanas built on each end of an infinity edged pool.

This home has lots of nice features. Roof tiles & chimneys are really nice. Columns are TOO FORMAL with corinthian capitals - that is odd - what were they thinking?

As much as I love those big stretches of grass, I also love the idea of breaking up the big expanse of lawn to create a pattern. Here we have a simple grid pattern broken up by brick. Another option (which I'd prefer) is to put a couple of rows of flower beds into the spread of grass.
