Home built by JMA (Jim Murphy and Associates); designed by Hart Howerton. Photo credit: Tim Maloney, Technical Imagery Studios.
Used as a weekend/vacation home for a family based in San Francisco, the owners wanted the home to be built in the Mediterranean style, but desired the interior design to possess an altogether more entertaining attitude. Everywhere one looks, there is humor and whimsy in the distinctive sculptures and other artwork that embellish the home.
In addition to the main house, there is a guest house, plunge pool, detached garage and promenade/tower. During construction, numerous native oak trees were preserved.

This wine cellar combines so much function with great form. Its look is traditional, with boxes and bottles lining the walls, and the table in the center invites tasting and conversation - perfect for a small party.
If you've got the space, a traditional wine cellar, with proper temperature and humidity control, is the way to go. I love how the individual bottles here are mixed up with some crates holding cases. Also, a tasting table in the center makes the room not just functional as a storage space, but a social one, too.
