Both of these houses were on the Cool House Tour of 2008. They were newly constructed homes, designed to fit into their spot in the neighborhood and to optimize energy efficiency. They have a bit of a contemporary edge to them while maintaining a certain warmth and "homey-ness".

Cork wall - Do you need to wash the corks and dry them in the sun prior to making a cork backsplash wall? »
Do you have any suggestions for a chair rail? - I'm creating a chair rail for my kitchen - approx. 10" wide - 16" long. The corks are laid out in alternating angles so there will be some spaces at the top and bottom of the design which I can fill in with glass or marbles.
What would you use for backing (to attach the corks on? I don't want to attach the corks directly to the wall. I'm planning to do 1/2" border at the top and bottom so I suppose I could make a mini box to lay them all in and attach that to the wall. What materials might you use?
Thanks!! »
Custom Home Planning Center A piece of quarter inch luan plywood with a glued and stapled sheet of 1/16" cork. The cork to cork should give you the uniform bond your looking for and a background that looks good without having to add odds and ends.
