Barbara Stock I love these trays, too. They are vintage tole trays, hand painted on metal, usually from the 1950s-60s. There are many available on ebay-just search "tole trays", or you can find them at flea markets and antique malls. They are very popular with turquoise/green, black, or red backgrounds (see my examples below), but there is a wide variety of colors and shapes available. Flowers are the most popular subjects, but fruits and other subjects are also available. Often, they are signed by the artist. These were made by several companies, Pilgrim being the one I remember off-hand. There are also older trays, from the 1800s, and antique French trays; these are pricier but can be absolutely gorgeous. Finally, there are papier mache over wood tole trays, which are usually Japanese or Italian (last photo). I would not buy a new or recent tray, the charm is in the subtle age; a few chips are to be expected and add to the charm. Hope you find one you love!
